EverGreen Establishes Nursing Scholarship Fund

EverGreen Adventures founders Tara and Jonathan Stewart have expanded the organization's portfolio of services, launching the EverGreen “Trails of Service” scholarship fund.

Established in honor of their family’s commitment of service to the country and their communities, the annual scholarship will be awarded to students attending an accredited U.S. based nursing program.

“Nurses continue to have a profound impact on my care and overall wellbeing. From ostomy support  to diabetes and cardiac health, I’ve received care from nurses that have provided unrelenting support, compassion, and expertise at some of the most challenging moments in my life,” explained Jonathan.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates there will be approximately 194,500 annual nursing job openings through 2032. Although the U.S. Chamber of Commerce projects only 177,400 nurses will enter the workforce each year.

Shortfalls in staffing have an impact across the board; placing additional stress on the existing workforce, risk to patient health, and the loss of an experienced knowledge base.

“Nurses are the foundation of a healthcare system that is already stretched to capacity. We count on them for so much, and our goal is to prioritize efforts to support the nursing community through tailored programming along with the establishment and growth of the Trails of Service scholarship fund,” said Tara.

The scholarship will prioritize awards to students managing a chronic illness, or for children of military personnel or educators, as a way to honor their families’ contributions to service.

“Every journey of service includes challenges and a number of different approaches or trails to reach a goal. We are excited to establish the scholarship and look forward to raising funds to expand future awards,” concluded Tara.
